ESH714 Understanding Educational Inquiry

This wiki is a record of my learning journey in the University of Tasmania unit, Understanding Educational Inquiry, in which I have tried to grasp the basics of contemporary educational research. As an adult literacy teacher I have a passion for supporting people to build the skills they need to make sense of their reality and to critically assess the perspectives they have in their world. Always a learner, in this unit I too have learned - new words, ideas, processes and skills, as I critically analysed the world of educational research to begin a deeper understanding of my world of adult literacy teaching and learning.

‘…literacy entails a teaching and learning process…which is focused on meaning-making [so that] learners are able to make sense of the world and develop their own perspectives.’ (Lonsdale & McCurry, 2004. p. 15)

‘When we recognise that we are operating within a paradigm…we can see new ways of seeing and explaining things. We can’t do that as long as we mistake our paradigm for reality.’ (Babbie, 2011. p. 34)

As work and study intertwine through life, my wiki is also shows glimpses of my personal reality – the sea, coffee with family and friends, travel, sport and learning.
